Living on Borrowed Spoons

Lo-resolution small version of a digital painting of 7 antique style spoons arranged across a color-splotch background
Living on Borrowed Spoons (lo-res version)
These spoons form the base of a digital piece for this year’s Long Covid Awareness Day (March 15), ME/CFS Awareness Day (May 12), and Fibromyalgia Awareness Day (also May 12). We might as well share the day as well as so many of our symptoms, right? The text around the final design reads “Still chronically ill” above the spoons and “Just borrowing these” below them.

Many thanks to Joanna Kosinska for sharing their photograph of the antique spoons on Unsplash! They captured such a lovely range of shapes and tones. Building on that arrangement, I digitally created a background, painstakingly added selective outlines for a more classic illustration look, used smudging brushes to simplify the colors of the photograph and enhance the warm tones, then added colors into the shadows for a more painterly feel.

You could get this design printed on all sorts of items at my 2 new Print-On-Demand (POD) shops. Yes, I finally got those loaded up!! Thanks to Amy, whose experiences in the POD trenches saved me a lot of time getting to a shortlist of two sites. I’m currently 3 months into a laundry test comparing their printing’s fortitude in the laundry, but based on that:

Find my all-the-design pages at my TeePublic shop (So far, their shirts seem to hold onto the designs well. Plus, they have pins) or at my Fine Art America shop (their notebooks have good paper and a pocket at the back, and they have puzzles). Both shops let you change the background color on most of the items once you click on them. Both sites also have mugs and magnets and stickers and all the usual things. Frankly, also some unusual things, or at least, not things I’d have expected to buy with POD designs.
