Here’s looking at you, king!

Dino spy with its massive eye…

This eye was the result of a phone call interrupting a documentary at a great freeze frame spot. As in so many other projects I’ve undertaken in my life, the outcome basically depends on how much time and care I put into it. I love dinosaurs, the pre-dinosaurs, and the massive crocodilians that are varied and highly underutilized as movie monsters. Somehow, it’s a lot easier to spend more time on even these small skill-building drawings when I like the subject!

Dromaeosaurs and the early birds are my special fascination. I’m still looking for more books and videos about the early mammals. Basically, I’m an armchair paleontology nerd. My desk has a Jurassic Park’s worth of small ancient animal figurines. Yes, I’m aware of the Dr. Dhrolin and Prof Primula D&D 5e setting books.

Emily Willoughby https://emilywilloughby.com/  is one of my bird/theropod art heroes. I smile at this mug  https://www.zazzle.com/tea_raptor_mug-168222407908959508 every time I use it.  If anyone has a book recommendation for grown-up armchair paleonerds about the early and post-asteroid weird mammals beyond Stephen Brusatte’s excellent work, please use the contact form and let me know! I’m also @ChrisFixedKitty.bsky.social, if that’s easier.
